Biobank samples.JPG

King’s Health Partners Cancer Biobank collects samples and data from patients attending Guy’s & St Thomas’ NHS Trust. The Breast Biobank started in 1975 whereas bladder and colorectal cancers are more recent additions. However, regardless of whether cancer or not, all samples and data are handled in a standardised way, with quality at the heart of what we do. This creates a streamline biobanking service that is sensitive to the patient, flexible to change in clinical practice but reactive to the scientific community.

King’s Health Partners Cancer Biobank meet the terms of all current laws and ethical guidelines associated with tissue collection and use for research. This includes having a Human Tissue Authority licence and approval from a NHS Research Ethics Committee.

The King’s Health Partners Cancer Biobank Management Committee oversees all aspects of governance and management. This Committee includes senior doctors, scientists, independent and patient representatives.

King’s Health Partners Cancer Biobank is listed on the UK CRC Tissue Directory and a member of the European, Middle Eastern and African Society for Biopreservation & Biobanking (ESBB).
