Betsy Arefaine PhD MSc BSc
Biobank Consent Coordinator, Patient and Public Involvement/Engagement Lead
Betsy graduated from King’s College London with a BSc in Biochemistry and stayed on to complete an MSc in drug discovery skills. She then worked as a senior technician in the KCL Infectious Diseases Biobank, whilst undertaking her PhD in Infection and Immunology.

Betsy then moved to the Institute of Hepatology, where she worked as a Research assistant in the Microbiome in advanced chronic liver disease group.
​
After 3 years, she joined the KHP Cancer Biobank as the Consent Coordinator where her role is to oversee, and unify consenting methods used across all banks. She has established a new, remote consenting pathway using electronic methods to share biobank information with patients and has the ultimate goal of setting up a fully electronic-consent pathway.

Betsy is also responsible for the public facing side of the Biobank helping to spread to joy of Biobanking as the PPIE lead as well as managing the Biobank Volunteers who are members of the public trained to help take consent.
