Become a Biobank Volunteer

347_Volunteer in the Cancer Centre.jpg

You can actively support the KHP Cancer Biobank by becoming a member of the Biobank Reference Group or a Consenter.

Biobank Reference Group

This group of ex-patients, patients and members of the public primarily look at how the Biobank can be promoted to patients, so they truly understand what it is and what it means if they’re approached to donate samples. Not only do the Group review our written information, such as leaflets and consent forms, they have also designed advertising posters, had significant input into developing and testing the Biobank game. They’ve even helped design this website!

You do not need any prior knowledge of biobanking or research to join the Group, you just need to be enthusiastic about giving patients the best biobanking experience. If you are interested in joining this Group, please contact the Biobank. We meet 4-6 times per year.

Biobank Consenters

These are members of the public who have been trained to take biobank consent. Consenters spend time explaining to patients about the Biobank, so they are fully informed, and then take written consent.  The Biobank Consenters are engaged via Guy's and St Thomas' Voluntary Services, so if you are interested in this unique volunteering opportunity contact either Voluntary Services or the Biobank.

You must be 21 or over, be fluent in English and complete a disclosure and barring service check. Volunteers who have had cancer in the past are most welcome but this role may not be suitable if you are undergoing active treatment or have recently been diagnosed.
